Founded in 1920, the University of New Haven provides an array of courses and hands on professional training. University of New Haven is situated in a sprawling 82-acre main campus. The main campus is located in West Haven, Connecticut, in close proximity to Long Island Sound. The satellite branch of UNH is situated in South Eastern Center in New London, Connecticut. The four academic colleges of the University include the College of Arts and Sciences, the Tagliatela College of Engineering, The college of Business and the Henry C. Lee College of Criminal Justice and Forensic Sciences.

New Haven College rose in position to a University following the addition of the Graduate School in 1969. The University currently offers 27 masters degree programs which attract both part time and full-time students. Several bachelors and associate degree programs are also offered to transfer and freshman students in several academic disciplines. The University College was established in 2007 to supervise the accelerated, evening and graduate school admissions process including the executive degree programs.

The University of New Haven has an enrollment of over 5,200 students out of which 3500 are undergraduates and roughly 1,700 are graduate students. A majority of these students stay in University housing.

Full-time tuition fees for undergraduate courses for the academic year 2006-07, including the activity and health fees, was $24,645. Boarding and room cost was $10,130.

The University of New Haven offers financial aid that encompasses not only university resources but also private, federal and state aid programs. Some form of assistance is received by a majority of students pursuing under graduate courses here. Federal aid can be procured through various grants such as Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant, Federal Pell Grant, Federal Perkins Loan, Federal work study, Federal Stafford Student Loan and others. Students can also try and get financial aid from private companies, foundations and organizations including other states.

UNH offers several varsity athletic programs for both men and women. Varsity teams for men include basketball, golf, baseball, indoor track, cross country golf, soccer, volleyball and outdoor track and field. Women’s varsity sports include softball, soccer, tennis, basketball and others. Other aspects of the University include religious organizations, student chapters of professional societies, special-interest clubs, social groups, cultural groups, student councils, sororities and fraternities.
